You Were Made For Me
On our Ian’s 21st birthday, I’ll share the poem I wrote for him when he was just a baby.
We remain eternally grateful for his birth mom, my dear friend, Cindy — who made a selfless choice when she chose to give her unborn baby life and then, later, decided to place him with us, trusting us to raise him well.
Yesterday, we spent beautiful time with Cindy and her sweet husband Maxx. They are and always will be our family. We are so very blessed!
You Were Made For Me
As I gaze at our reflection in the mirror on the wall,
I reflect upon the days gone by, and like a water-colored mural,
The memories blend together now much like colors on the canvas,
But united form an image; it is you I see at last.
And the picture is you, too beautiful to believe;
The dream has come true, and it’s in your eyes I see
Myself — your mother — and forever I will be;
The waiting has come to an end;
Yes — you were made for me.
Things don’t often happen the way we think they will;
And sometimes we get lost in the waiting, and it’s not until
We look back upon our journey, and we see the beaten path;
Not the one we’d have imagined, but it got us there at last.
And the picture I see there, too precious to believe;
A dream has come true, and it’s in your eyes I see
Myself — your mother — forever I will be;
My prayer was answered another way;
Yet you were made for me.
It took a lot of faith to hold onto the dream,
And there were times, I’ll admit, that it just didn’t seem
You’d ever come into my life and wipe away my tears,
But now you’re here, and all the pain has vanished with those waiting years.
And the picture I see here, too beautiful to believe;
A dream has finally come true — it’s in your eyes I see
Myself — your mother; forever I will be.
You were sent from Heaven, made perfectly for me.
And I’ll never find a fitting way to thank the Girl who chose
To offer you a life with me; I guess God only knows
How very much I love her for giving you to me,
And I hope and pray that one day she too will clearly see
The picture that I see here, too beautiful to believe;
A dream that she helped make come true; it’s in your eyes I see
A bit of her each time I look, but that’s just fine with me.
I hold you now because of her…
For she gave you to me.
Oh, you came to me so perfectly.
Yes, you were made for me.
He settles the barren woman in her home and makes her a happy mother of children (Ps. 113:9).
Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart (Ps. 37:4).
